A look into the state of Internationalized Domain Names: trends, analysis, and usage
In this talk, we propose to present the state of internationalized domain name (IDN) by analysis that focuses on trends and usage. We explore the delegation characteristics of IDN domain names as measured from zone files of zones run by Verisign, and highlight trends in the new generic IDN TLDs (both legacy and new gTLDs). We focus on traffic analysis characterizing the usage of IDNs in com and net by conducting nxd/yxd traffic comparison, and how that relate to other non-IDN usage. We further accompany this usage by a view from the root, at both A and J, as well as the DITL data. Finally, we measure the context versus naming of IDN; in particular we discuss whether the contents in the IDN named domains are actually contents of the same script as the IDN or different.
