Description
Generative AI tools like ChatGPT have suddenly risen in fame but DNS is a complex topic. The Gen AI tools are increasingly relied upon by application owners who are not DNS experts to find answers for DNS related questions. DNS is used by various services such as LetsEncrypt or Google-Site to establish domain ownership and these services ask application owner to add CNAME, TXT and A records in their DNS zones.
In this presentation, I will demonstrate an experiment in which I ask the GenAI tools various DNS related question of easy to moderate complexity and examine the answers for correctness.
Secondary goal is to start a conversation in the community about GenAI and DNS. Should DNS-OARC create a tool grounded in IETF documents and answers verified by DNS experts? Should we propose a new IETF draft in dns-ops for best practices in usage of Gen AI in resolver/auth server softwares?
